Each year millions of Americans face the reality of living with a mental illness. Mental Health Awareness Month was started by the Mental Health America organization (then known as the National Association for Mental Health) and has been observed during the month of May in the United States since 1949. Mental Health Awareness Month aims to raise awareness regarding the trauma and societal impact that mental illness can have on the physical, emotional, and mental well-being of children, families, and communities as a whole.
Advocate for healing mental illness, however, and where ever you are. Give the gift of a smile, or take the time to listen to someone who may need someone to talk to. No matter how big or small, helping someone in need could make a difference in their mental health. Sharing is caring!
Peace and Love!
